Our Galley Hood Cleaning Process
Our team uses a specialty tool kit for removing system components for cleaning access including galley hoods, extraction fans, housings, and ducting components. Once everything is taken apart, some parts are cleaned and degreased in place, while other removable components may be taken back to our facility for a thorough steam cleaning.
The Coastal Tank team can also provide a comprehensive cleaning of laundry / dryer exhaust duct interiors, using a cable driven rotating brush head inside of a vacuum flex hose connected to a HEPA vacuum. All dust is continually vacuumed as it is loosened by the rotating brush head, ensuring your interior remains clean and dust free. We can clean 30’ in either direction from a single access point.
During the cleaning process, we ensure your interior is protected and use clean drop cloths and plastic in our work area. Once our team completes a comprehensive cleaning of the full galley hood and duct system, we conduct a final cleanup of the area, inspect the equipment and system, complete an operational test with the chief engineer, and provide a full service report with documented photos for your records.
Galley hood and laundry extraction duct cleaning is required to be performed annually for all Lloyds and ABS classified vessels. Additionally, other non-class insurance companies may require that galley hoods, extraction fans, galley extraction ducting, dryer exhaust duct interiors, and extraction fans be cleaned once per year. These services eliminate two main potential fire hazards on yachts, increasing the safety of your vessel and crews. Coastal Tank recommends that these cleaning services be performed annually on ALL vessels, regardless of size.
